Link to: January Exam Schedule

Culminating Activities/Summative evaluations may start 4 – 6 weeks prior to the end of a semester.  Culminating Activities and exams carry the same importance and same attendance requirement.  Thus, attendance during culminating activities/summative evaluations is mandatory.  A culminating activity is the final evaluation in each course which is worth 30% of the final mark.  “This evaluation will be based on evidence from one or a combination of the following: an examination, a performance, an essay and/or another method of evaluation suitable to the course content” (p.41-Growing Success).  Students who miss culminating activities or summative evaluations will be given a mark of zero for the portion missed with no opportunity to make up the missed work unless there is an extenuating and documented circumstance, such as a medical situation, court date, funeral etc. It is absolutely crucial that students do not miss any time during the end of a semester. Under Ministry of Education and TDSB regulations, there can be no accommodations made for students who miss the 30% culminating activities and summative evaluations at the end of a semester for personal reasons such as vacation or work. Students and parents should be aware that scheduled vacations at this time can significantly impact student achievement. With the exception of a medical emergency, all summative tests and assignments that are missed as a result of these absences will be assigned a mark of zero.

ABSENCE FROM EXAMINATIONS AND FINAL EVALUATIONS

Absence from a Culminating Activity Evaluation

Culminating activities are completed toward the end of a course and are part of the student’s 30% final evaluation.

Culminating activities and examinations carry the same importance and the same attendance requirement. Thus, attendance during culminating activities is mandatory. Some courses have culminating activities that take place over several days.

If a student misses a culminating activity, the student will receive a mark of “0”. If a student misses the deadline for submission of a culminating activity, the student will receive a mark of “0”.

In the event that a student is too sick to complete a culminating activity, the parent/guardian/caregiver must provide medical documentation of the illness.

The parent/guardian/caregiver is asked to contact the school before the culminating activity due date. The parent/guardian/caregiver must provide documentation by a medical doctor.

Family vacations are not considered excused absences and as such, students are expected to be in class for all culminating activities.

If satisfactory documentation of the illness is provided on the missed evaluation form, the culminating activity may be rescheduled. Otherwise, the student will receive a mark of “0”.

Absence from a Final Examination

Exam dates and times for all courses are set out in the exam schedule which is distributed to students and parents/guardians/caregivers. We are not able to accommodate any changes to the exam schedule or requests to write an exam at a date/time other than the scheduled date/time shown.

Students are urged to check their exam schedule carefully. If a student misses an exam because of misreading a schedule, the student will receive a mark of “0”.

In the event that a student is too sick to write a final exam, the parent/guardian/caregiver must provide medical documentation of the illness.

The parent/guardian/caregiver is asked to contact the school before the exam is written. The parent/guardian/caregiver will provide documentation from a medical doctor and submit to the administration.

Family vacations are not considered excused absences and as such, students are expected to be in attendance for all examinations.

If satisfactory documentation of the illness is provided on the missed evaluation form, an alternative evaluation may be scheduled. Students granted an alternative evaluation will receive a mark of “0” until they complete the alternative examination.

LATE ARRIVALS DURING EXAMINATIONS

Each student is given a copy of the exam schedule at least two weeks before the examination. Punctuality is expected. Students who arrive late will be admitted to the exam up to one hour after the exam begins, but will not receive extra time. In exceptional circumstances the Vice- Principal in charge of exams may grant extra time if students participating in the exam have not yet been released from the exam room.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Any student found copying from someone and/or in possession of notes or materials not permitted in the exam room will be deemed to be cheating. Electronic devices are not permitted in the exam room. Students using electronic devices during exams to download or share information will be deemed to be cheating. Cheating is a serious offence and may lead to a mark of zero.

monarch eats! (a lot)

Monarch Eats is a mostly student run group that makes sure that the students at Monarch Park have healthy foods available to them every morning and at lunch.  Students can also access food during the day from our guidance department waiting room.

This program is expensive!  We are fortunate to have grants from TFSS (Toronto Federation for Student Success) and from PC Charities but it's not enough to support the amount of food our students are consuming.

If you are able to support our program, please donate through:

  • Cash Online (choose: Nutrition Program Donations - MPC)
  • For a tax receipt (dontations over $10) , use  https://tfss.ca/donate/ (make sure you type in Monarch Park Collegiate as your tribute or the donation will not come back to MPC)
  • Send your student to school with cash or a cheque made out to TFSS (donations over $10 will receive a tax receipt from TFSS)
