Students in the IB Diploma Program complete rigorous academic courses that, in many cases, go well beyond the regular secondary school curriculum. Additionally, students are expected to engage in extracurricular activities and to be active members of their local and greater communties. Students in the IB Diploma Program are diligent and engaged learners and emerge from the program as well rounded individuals with the independent critical thinking skills required to be productive members of our global society.

Final exams are internationally standardized. Students write externally set exams which are marked by educators employed by the International Baccalaureate.

Universities around the world recognize the program and, in many cases, offer scholarships and advanced placement for students who have achieved high scores in the IB Diploma. Students who have successfully completed the IB Diploma have developed critical thinking and research skills and are regarded as very prepared for university level study.

Students complete courses from 6 Areas of Knowledge: Language A, Langauge B, Individuals & Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics and the Arts.

Students also complete additional "Core Elements" which include the Theory of Knowledge course, and Extended Essay and 150 Hours of extracurricular learning (CAS - Creativity, Action, Service).

Monarch Park Collegiate has been an International Baccalaureate world school since 2007. Students interested in IB at MPC will need to be self-motivated and have a high degree of intellectual curiosity. They will need strong written and verbal skills in English and will want to participate in their school and in their local, national and international communities.

The IB program is a natural fit with the focus on Global Education at Monarch Park Collegiate. Both philosophies strive to create students who are inquisitive, knowledgeable and caring.

Students interested in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Monarch Park Collegiate will need to go through an application process to enter at the Grade 9 level. In grades 9 and 10, students complete the IB Prep Program, which prepares them for the rigours of the Diploma Program.

Students registered as IB Diploma Program Candidates through the TDSB will have the opportunity to earn both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and the IB Diploma.
